Seniors end collegiate careers with tough fought road losses

The women’s basketball team ended its season with two road losses at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 69-60 and Pomona-Pitzer 83-58 on Thursday and Saturday.

Playing out the final games of their collegiate careers, seniors Amanda Bozovich, Rene Davis, Meghan Kellerher, Lindsay King and Raquel Martinez made things interesting on the road.

Caltech battled CMS all night as King shot 5-for-10 for the three-point line en route to 19 points as the Beavers furiously tried to get their first ever SCIAC road win. Down 35-26 due to hot shooting from CMS, the Beavers’ hustle won them 11 more field-goal attempts in the second half, but they were unable to take advantage.

Against Pomona-Pitzer, the situation looked much brighter at halftime as Caltech found itself only down 34-28 while holding the Sagehens to 33 percent shooting. However, the second period saw Pomona scorching the Beavers for 49 points.

Davis led the Beavers with 17 points and 8 rebounds while King chipped in with 13 and 11.

Swimming and Diving narrowly miss seventh place in SCIAC finals

The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams placed eighth during the SCIAC finals held Thursday through Saturday.

Senior Tim Curran finished fourth in the 200-yard backstroke to earn 15 of Caltech men’s 147 final points. Senior Erin Flanagin finished 16th in the 50-yard freestyle, freshman Paul Fleiner won 19th in the 1650-yard freestyle while Curran also finished 16th in the 100-yard freestyle.

The Whittier men narrowly edged out Caltech 171-147 for seventh place.
Sophomore Dianne Plummer finished 11th in the 200-yard breaststroke. She also finished 13th in the 100-yard breaststroke along with 16th place winner freshman Justine Chia. The women finished with 152 points, just six below seventh place Whittier.

The men’s basketball team suffered a pair of lackluster losses on the road this week against CMS (74-42) and Pomona-Pitzer 92-33.
